Other Groups

Prayer Ministry

The Pastoral Team have a prayer board in the Lady Chapel in the South Aisle of the church. Anyone is welcome to leave prayer requests - people living in the village, visitors and members of the congregation. We will undertake to pray for them for a period of three weeks.

We pray regularly for all our congregations, and we also operate a Prayer Chain for urgent situations within and beyond the Parish.

Events Comittee

The Events Committee's task is to initiate and promote a programme of social and fundraising events. Although we need to raise money, equally important are the pleasure and mutual support that we experience as part of the church family while taking part in these activities. We aim to cover a rich variety of events with something for everyone!

In most years there is a Quiz Night, a Jumble Sale and musical events, together with a Barn Dance, Haggis Hooley or other very sociable get-togethers. At Harvest Festival we often hold a 'bring-and-share' lunch, to which all are welcome. The major fundraisers are the Christmas Fayre, held in Danbury Village Hall on a Saturday in November, and the Summer Fayre, which is part of our Patronal Festival Weekend towards the end of June.

For information on future events, please contact Julie Gilligan (01245 224751)

Healing Ministry

We have a Christian Healing Ministry Team which ministers to individuals, and prays for others, after the Communion service on the 1st Sunday in the month.

The Mothers' Union

The local Danbury MU group meets monthly at 2pm on the 3rd Wednesday in the Meeting Room at St John's church. We enjoy visits from a number of interesting and informative speakers through the year. Recent topics have included the Sunshine Homes, CHESS, and growing up as a Barnado boy. We also learned about the MU's Literacy and Development Programme in Africa - this has enabled thousands of women to read and write, to start their own small businesses, and to contribute greatly to their family's welfare.

Our Enrolling Member writes: The Danbury MU group makes occasional trips outside the parish, for example to St John's Orthodox Monastery at Tolleshunt D'Arcy. On occasions, other local Mothers' Union groups are welcomed to share our events, such as the Summer Strawberry Tea. Our Annual General Meeting and Lunch is held in January, and our December meeting includes a short service and festive activities!

Not all Mothers' Union members are mothers, and our MU Committee has included male office holders for some years now! Visitors are welcomed to all our meetings.
