Jesus rides into church - on a donkey!

Children and clergy with the donkeyThe children of Sunday Experience brought their own version of the meaning of Palm Sunday to the 10am service.   With a little help from their friends, they had made a beautiful grey donkey that glided down the aisle with ” Jesus”  on his back.    As some children guided the donkey, others waved their home-made palm leaves and laid them in his path, shouting 'Hosanna!'.

It certainly added a new dimension to the sermon by Canon Graham Blyth, reflecting on the meaning of Palm Sunday from an adult perspective.

'Jesus' on the donkey, flanked by the clergyThe children showed great enthusiasm for their short drama, but the day undoubtedly belonged to the donkey.  After the service the 'actors' and donkey posed for photographs - which probably didn't happen on the first Palm Sunday.....

The service was a splendid start to Holy Week, which continued with services of Compline on three evenings, two Eucharists on Maundy Thursday, and, on Good Friday, Hot Cross Buns in the meeting room followed by a service in church, and then the ecumenical Act of Witness at Eves Corner, Danbury.
